Why choose the bass guitar for your child

Many people are fascinated with playing the electric bass guitar because it is easy to learn. If you are one of those parents who would want to choose a musical instrument for your child, then you might want to consider the bass guitar.

When selecting a musical instrument for your child, one of the major considerations should be how easy the styles that could be used to learn to play this instrument the fastest way possible. Once you have decided to let your child play the bass guitar, the first thing that you need to pay attention to is the styles and techniques in playing it. It is quite important for your child to learn it because this will make things easier for him when he practices.

Many of the bass instruments are usually played upright because bass strings are oftentimes the longest. Since this is the case, the instrument would automatically much longer than regular guitar. Although the bass has a larger body, longer neck and only has four strings, it is played the exact same way as one would play the regular guitar.

Styles in playing the bass guitar

Many choose to play the bass guitar because there are so many easy styles that can be used. The most common style that is being used when playing the bass guitar is the "pizzicato" or "plucking" the strings. Unlike those that play the regular guitar, the ones who play the electric bass are only limited to pizzicato technique or plucking all throughout their performances. This is because this technique is the best one that can be used for this instrument since it brings the best sound that it can create.

Kids would definitely enjoy the style called "plucking" wherein the main fingers that are used are the middle and index fingers. Some kids learn faster when they use their thumb and ring finger but this can be difficult to sustain since the strings are since made of steel that can be painful over time. For long performances, many people who play the bass guitar used "plectrums" or "picks" to ensure that they produce the same quality of sound despite performing for long period of time.

Another style that you can teach your child is called "slapping" or "popping" the strings. This is being used by many players because the sound it creates that has a resemblance to funk music. Here, the index finger or middle finger is used to be able to create a flatter sound. This is also done by literally popping the strings using the same fingers. These styles are common to musicians who have rock and fusion as their musical genre.
