When choosing musical instruments for your child, it could be overwhelming. There are a lot of instruments to choose from and they would be great for your kids. But when buying any kind of musical instrument, always consider what interests your child, your budget and child's size and other physical limitations.

� Strings
Violin is great for children older than 6 years old. There are different sizes of violins which could easily fit your child's arms and fingers. Non-electric violins are better for beginners. Another interesting stringed instrument is a cello which is also suitable for the same age range. But you would have to consider how you would transport the equipment. Harps are also classic sounding and can be very beautiful to listen to.

� Woodwind Instruments
Most children would learn woodwind instruments by the time they reach fourth and fifth grade. Some of the popular woodwind instruments are flute, clarinet and saxophone. These instruments would require some serious finger work and at the same time big enough to cover the holes. You would also need the fingers to be able to reach the keys, especially in the saxophone.
There are different sizes and types for these instruments. Aside from that, there are many opportunities for children who know how to play the flute and clarinet. � Bass Instruments
Bass instruments like trombone, trumpet and tubas may be difficult for small and young children to carry. So again, size and age would matter. However, children with braces would find it difficult to play this kind of instrument since it would require permanent front teeth and thin lips. These brass instruments could be easy to transport and not that expensive.
� Piano
Piano and keyboards are another great instruments for a beginner. Although, it would take a lot of time to master, pianos are surely worth it. There are traditional and modern pieces that children can learn. If you are just planning on getting a piano, then you would have to make sure that you have sufficient space for it. Coordination is very important with piano playing but this could actually be achieved by children through practice and patience.
� Percussion instruments
Percussion instruments could be suitable for kids more that seven years old. There are even small hand-held drums which could work for a smaller kid. Although it could be a tad noisy, it could help your kid to improve coordination and dexterity.
