The Right Guitar And Your Child

Your kid has finally decided to learn guitar. Then you would have to get the right guitar for your child. Actually, there are three types of guitars: the nylon-string acoustic guitar, the steel- string acoustic guitar and the electric guitar. These guitars would have different characteristics.

For beginners, it is better to let them use the nylon-string acoustic guitars. Steel strings would require more pressure on the fingers which could really make the fingers of your little one sore. For young children, electrical guitar may also be heavier but they are easier to learn. But if your child is interested in learning classical pieces, then using acoustic guitars may be better.

There are different sizes for guitars and are usually based on the ages of the kids. If you think your child is bigger or smaller that children in the same age group, then it would be better to bring your kid with you when you go shopping for guitars. For example, with acoustic guitars, a three to six year old could handle a half-size acoustic guitar. While a youngster aged 12 years old could handle the classical and concert guitar.

But the easiest test to check if the guitar "fits" you child is actually by holding it. Let your kid sit down and rest the curve the guitar on his/her thigh. If he or she was able o strum and hold the neck properly, then the size may be totally perfect.

When buying guitars, its condition is very important. Some experts would say that buying second hand or used guitars are not the best idea unless you will be buying from somebody who is totally knowledgeable and reputable with selling guitars. Failure to do so, you may end with totally poor sounding guitar that would need tons of repairs for the entire year. If you want to get the best or top quality guitar, then you would have to be prepared to spend a few dollars more.

Aside from the instrument, you may also need the accessories for the guitar. A beginner does not need or may find the accessories not that important. However, there are some accessories that can be shares or can be bought immediately like gig bag, guitar strap, pick, guitar tuner and extra strings.

For your child to fully embrace and practice playing the guitar, then you would have to make sure she is prepared by going to lessons. Taking guitar lessons is another investment. This is also another great experience for your child. Children are very happy about moving out and spending time with other people. Learning to play the guitar and any other instrument in that case, can surely help the child develop her potential and her attitude.
